Expert Church Architects Hereford for St Mary's Kyre Conservation
St Mary's Kyre, located in South West Worcestershire, required essential conservation work on the East window of its 14th-century Lady Chapel. The project involved a collaborative approach with the Parochial Church Council (PCC) to devise an appropriate and sensitive restoration plan. Given the constraints imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, minimising physical exposure was crucial. To address this, we employed advanced photogrammetry techniques to create a highly detailed 3D model of the chapel. This method not only enhanced the accuracy of our assessments but also significantly reduced the need for on-site visits, thereby ensuring the safety of both our team and the client.
The process began with capturing rectified images of the Lady Chapel’s East window, which facilitated a comprehensive on-site inspection. This inspection allowed us to evaluate the window's condition meticulously and to determine the most suitable conservation strategy, whether it be replacement, repair, or retention of various elements. These findings were meticulously documented and integrated into CAD drawings, forming the basis for a detailed repair specification.
In 2021, the project was tendered, and efforts to secure funding are currently underway. We anticipate that the conservation work will commence on-site sometime in 2022. The proposed interventions aim to preserve the historical integrity of the Lady Chapel while ensuring its structural stability and aesthetic continuity.
As Expert Church Architects Hereford Our approach underscores the importance of using modern technology to complement traditional conservation methods, enabling us to maintain high standards of care and precision in the restoration of historic structures. St Mary's Kyre serves as a testament to our commitment to preserving the architectural heritage of religious buildings, ensuring they remain treasured landmarks for future generations.
